The Town of Scottsville is committed to ensuring that people with disabilities have equal access to all Town programs, services, and activities, in keeping with both the letter and the spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Town staff are available to help residents with disabilities identify and access resources that best meet their needs, including but not limited to parks and recreation, public safety and policing, public meetings, and employment opportunities.

Nondiscrimination Under Title II of the ADA
In accordance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Town of Scottsville will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs, or activities.
EmploymentThe Town of Scottsville does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices. The Town complies with all regulations issued by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under Title I of the ADA.
Employment-related complaints of disability discrimination are handled under the Town’s Personnel Policy.
Effective CommunicationUpon request, the Town of Scottsville will provide appropriate aids and services to ensure effective communication with qualified persons with disabilities, so they can participate equally in Town programs, services, and activities.
Examples of aids and services may include, as appropriate:
Qualified sign language interpreters
Assistive listening devices
Accessible electronic formats or large print materials
Other reasonable aids or services needed for effective communication
The Town will also make information and communications accessible to people who have speech, hearing, or vision impairments.
Modifications to Policies and ProceduresThe Town of Scottsville will make reasonable modifications to policies and procedures when necessary to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all Town programs, services, and activities.
For example, individuals with service animals are welcome in all Town offices and facilities, even where pets are generally not allowed.
The ADA does not require the Town to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of a program or service, or that would impose an undue financial or administrative burden.
Requests for Aids, Services, or ModificationsAnyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures in order to participate in a program, service, or activity of the Town of Scottsville, should contact:

Requests should be made as soon as possible, but no later than 48 hours before the scheduled event, when practical.
The Town of Scottsville will not place a surcharge on an individual with a disability, or on any group of individuals with disabilities, to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids, services, or reasonable modifications of policies. This includes actions such as retrieving items from shelves or locations that are open to the public but may be inaccessible to individuals who use wheelchairs.
ADA Grievance ProcedureThis Grievance Procedure is established to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). It may be used by anyone who wishes to file a complaint alleging discrimination on the basis of disability in the provision of services, activities, programs, or benefits by the Town of Scottsville.
This procedure applies to non-employment matters. Employment-related complaints are addressed under the Town’s Personnel Policy.
How to File a ComplaintA complaint should be submitted in writing and include:
The name, address, and phone number of the complainant
The location, date, and description of the problem or alleged violation
Complaints should be submitted as soon as possible, but no later than 60 calendar days after the alleged violation, to:

Alternative means of filing a complaint will be made available, upon request, for individuals with disabilities. This may include personal interviews, assistance with writing the complaint, or an audio recording of the complaint.
Review and ResponseWithin 15 calendar days after receiving the complaint, the ADA Coordinator or designee will meet with the complainant to discuss the complaint and possible resolutions.
Within 15 calendar days after this meeting, the ADA Coordinator or designee will respond to the complainant in writing, and, where appropriate, in a format accessible to the complainant (for example, large print, email, or audio). The response will:
Explain the position of the Town of Scottsville, and
Offer options for substantive resolution of the complaint, where appropriate.
All written complaints received by the ADA Coordinator, any appeals, and all written responses will be kept by the Town of Scottsville for at least three (3) years.
