Taxes
Scottsville funds its operations through locally generated revenues, including utility taxes, meals tax, business and professional licenses, bank franchise tax, the Town’s share of state‑collected sales taxes, transient occupancy tax, and other fees and revenue sources.
The Town of Scottsville does not collect real estate or personal property taxes. Scottsville property owners pay real estate and personal property taxes directly to the county where their property is located—either Albemarle County or Fluvanna County—and those county revenues help support schools, public safety, and other core services the Town depends on.
When residents and businesses pay all of these taxes on time, they keep Scottsville alive—supporting police, streets, parks, and basic town services that cannot exist without steady tax revenue.
