Police Department
The Town Charter establishes the office of “Town Sergeant,” originally tasked with safeguarding the rights and safety of all residents. Today, these responsibilities are fulfilled by the Scottsville Police Department (SVPD), which is led by an appointed Chief of Police and operates according to the best practices of modern community policing.
Scottsville currently employs a part-time Chief of Police, two full-time officers, a part-time Administrative Sergeant, and several auxiliary officers. The Town maintains mutual aid agreements with all three surrounding counties to ensure effective public safety cooperation. The SVPD is also actively engaged in community outreach and engagement. Details about their work can be found on the SVPD Facebook Page.
The Town sends policing data to the state government according to the Virginia Community Policing Act. Visit their website to see statewide data, and search for Scottsville.
