Vehicle License Tax Vehicle License Tax

Residents of the Town of Scottsville who own motor vehicles must pay an annual vehicle license tax. Town residents pay this Scottsville vehicle license tax instead of the Albemarle or Fluvanna County vehicle license tax. However, for vehicles garaged in the Albemarle County portion of town, Albemarle includes the Scottsville vehicle license tax on its personal property tax bills and collects it on the Town’s behalf. Fluvanna County does not bill or collect this tax for the Town, so residents on the Fluvanna side of Scottsville must pay the Town directly.

The current annual vehicle license tax amounts are:

• $40.75 for passenger cars and light trucks weighing 4,000 pounds or less

• $45.75 for passenger cars and trucks weighing more than 4,000 pounds

• $28.75 for motorcycles

• $28.50 for trailers weighing more than 1,500 pounds

• $18.00 for trailers weighing 1,500 pounds or less

New residents must pay the vehicle license tax (prorated by month) within 30 days of moving into the Town.

The Town of Scottsville does not require a windshield decal as proof of payment. Instead, vehicle registration and tax status are verified through records maintained by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.
